Why the Global Designer Network Designers are the Powerhouse of Web3 Fashion.

Vast decentralised networks of designers are set to overtake the big legacy brands of yesterday.

The biggest digital fashion sales ever occurred just days ago with the sale of the Dolce & Gabbana NFT release. Over 1,885.719 Ether was pooled in from across 9outfits and the market that was treated as a distant afterthought to trad fash just 12 months ago, is now turning heads, dominating the headlines and frankly, if a fashion brand/designer isn’t thinking about web3 and the metaverse, then they’re ngmi.

The Global Designer Network, hatched out of the DIGITALAX ecosystem, is the very first on-chain hybrid digital-physical web3 fashion DAO. The important thing to note here, is that web3 comes first, not fashion. Because frankly, the only fashion that matters is the kind that empowers everyone who creates and wears it, which is exactly what web3 does for all.

Traditional fashion promises the usual everything; feel great, look great and all of the rest. But, we all know that’s really just an empty promise and clever marketing gimmick.

It’s not enough to virtue signal when talking about empowerment, you have to live it. And the only way to do that in a world where software runs, powers and has eaten everything, is to put the power, capital, access, community and personal choice into every asset that we buy and wear.

And this is exactly what the symbiosis between DIGITALAX and the Global Designer Network achieves;

  • DIGITALAX as the cityscape to the web3 fashion industry; catalysing collectors, buyers, designers, wearers, players and other metaverse dwellers to come together, interact, transact and generate squad wealth.
  • The Global Designer Network (GDN) as the leading purveyors, engaging in supply, commerce, creativity and trade, and utilising and fueling the cityscape we all inhabit.

Ultimately, at the very heart of all of this is us; the designers, GDN members and the buyers that recognise and collect the value of wide networks of creators moving swiftly beyond what any massive legacy brand can ever hope to undertake.

As spelled out by Clayton Christensen, these big brands have fallen into the innovators dilemma. In essence, it is entirely impossible for a massive corporation with no incentive to its employees to go above and beyond anything but the least required of them to collect their paycheck. They can never hope to compete with dedicated, self motivated teams of highly talented people. It’s the story we’ve seen play out for decades in startups and technology and what we are seeing today (literally this day in October) with all of Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram going down. Unless they radically transform overnight into suddenly authentically native web3 protocols, which I would love to see but highly doubt will happen, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Forever 21 and all the rest, will never be able to maintain their position as titans of the industry. Because, ultimately, these brands are luxury status items only because of the people who make it possible; the markets, the designers, the buyers i.e. all of the us.

When we transition to creating for and serving each other directly instead through DAOs, NFTs, DeFi and the rest of web3, we wake up to the fact we are the top tier brands now, without the need to bow down to any centralised authority.

And this is what makes me so proud and excited to be a genesis designer in the Global Designer Network. We are literally revolutionising the entire trad fashion industry and moving everything into web3 out in the open for anyone to see, yet somehow invisible to those that remain fixated on old illusions of fame and power.

From our weekly open community calls, bustling discord server to the creator empowering projects and initiatives that we continue to bring forward— We are truly something that this market has never seen. A new force rising in the global networks that connect us all.

I, myself, released my first official NFT drop just yesterday, bringing forward a new era of Trash Fashion and fucking with the norm. You can check out the drops on DIGITALAX and Foundation, it’s a two part series, made entirely with open source 3D, video effects and audio glitching software.

It’s one personal giant step but simultaneously a drop in the ocean that all of us designer’s in the GDN form.

So, as new money comes into to this market, we couldn’t be more excited, because all of our hardwork, sacrifice and determination is beginning to pay off. Making a web3 fashion market + ecosystem isn’t about just releasing NFTs. And although some new players might think that that’s all it takes, to be native and devoted to the medium that you’re building in, which for us is web3, means taking the giant leap of faith, traversing the unknown and continuing to create the kind of truly original and inspiring work that every designer in the GDN materialises and fabricates each day.
