How Modding Weaves the Metaverse, En Route.

Since Ethereum was founded in 2015, many other blockchains, Layer 1s, infrastructure solutions have come along attempting to claim the crown as the most prominently adopted protocol layer.

It’s not to dismiss that many of these alternates were and still are pioneering major innovation for the whole of web3, whether that be through new technical accomplishments or commercial advancements.

However, the one thing that all of these blockchains lack, even Bitcoin (Don’t hate me maxis), is that none of them are able to replicate or come even close to replicating the authenticity of Ethereum’s developer ecosystem, decentralised governance and operations, global cultural movement and also magnetic force for the best and brightest minds in the world.

As far as I see it, Binance Smart Chain is a honeytrap for pump and dump projects and quick exits for degen traders, and on the other hand projects like Flow will never be able to scale beyond a web2 facade oozing with vulture capitalists obsessed with the big studio model.

Ethereum empowers the underdogs and the undervalued, those that aren’t afraid to follow their own rhythm or climb a mountain that has never been climbed before. Ethereum inspires the risk takers.

It’s these same reasons why I have steered DIGITALAX to charter a course for empowering and energising the modding community. It’s the authentic backbone to the entirety of the gaming industry and in fact it is what will weave authenticity and a persistent thread of substantive human connection into the metaverse.

Modding is what maintains novelty and recurrent value for both fashion, gaming, everything. It’s the modders that inspire, generate and catalyse all of our interactive content; whether that be clothing or something else. And, as we become even more digitally native, modding only becomes more important. Because now more than ever it is so easy for us to forgot how we got here.

The centuries of tinkerers, risk takers, navigators and outcast engineers, to far afield to be understood by their surroundings. Because that is the thing, isn’t it— time moves geographically.

However, in the metaverse time doesn’t have to move this way. The walls can be minaturised, the interactions more seamless and transfer of information more efficient and serendipitous than ever.

If we do it right by encouraging an open bazaar like Ethereum and like that of modding culture then we can cultivate cross channels of interaction that bypass the limitations of place and time. For the first time, our geography is detached from our experience of reality.

So, where to next?

Well, it’s for each of us to mod our way to where. Achieving the actuality of “a metaverse” is not going to be some sudden transition where we all wake up with VR headsets permanently attached to our faces. It just doesn’t work like that. In fact, we are already here. It’s just that so many of us are still located on disconnected parts of the map.

But, ultimately, when we all do eventually reach parity, it’s the modding culture that will continue to help us to re-evaluate the potentiality of where we are and what we can do here in a way, where for the first time no one has to be left behind.
